The Antequera City Council has announced the reopening of the municipal campsite, closed due to irregular uses. A private company will take over management after resolving the complex legal situation of the space.

The municipal campsite in Antequera will welcome visitors again after years of neglect and a controversy that led to its closure. The mayor, Manuel Barón, has confirmed that the City Council has resolved the legal and property situation of the facilities, paving the way for their recovery. Management will fall to a private company, which will need to invest in the rehabilitation of the space.

The campsite was closed after detecting "constructions and uses that did not correspond to the proper regulation of the space," as explained by the mayor. The eviction sparked intense political debate in the city of Torcal. Now, the goal is to "fully recover the property, order its registration situation, properly segregate the plots, change its legal nature to convert it into public domain property, and prepare all the administrative documentation," detailed Barón.

An "ultra complicated" process

The mayor described the file as "ultra complicated," as it was necessary not only to resolve the legal situation but also to attract private investment. "It was not just about resolving the legal and property situation of the space, but also about attracting private investment capable of taking on the recovery and putting this tourist resource back into service," he pointed out.

The municipal tourism delegate, Ana Cebrián, explained that after the eviction, the search for interested companies began. "It is a highly sought-after space in our city and located in a natural environment," she stated. Cebrián highlighted the interest of several companies, including Inversiones Sevilla Puerto, which presents a recovery project that "should never have been mistreated."

Separation of plots and next steps

A key step has been the separation of the campsite plot from the space of the Nacimiento de la Villa. "Now we are only going to award the campsite plot," the councillor emphasized. The heritage delegate, Antonio García, recalled that the process has been prolonged due to the need to obtain reports, some from 2023.

The mayor is convinced that the campsite "is destined to become a top-level offer for Antequera." For the locals, the reopening will mean the recovery of a leisure space in the heart of nature, highly sought after especially during the high season. The next step will be the public tender to award management to the selected private company.
