The Antequeran Antonio García Acedo has taken office as the territorial delegate of Economy, Finance and European Funds, and of University, Industry, Energy and Innovation of the Junta de Andalucía in Málaga. The mayor of Antequera, Manolo Barón, supported the new delegate at the event held at the Museum of Málaga.
The Palacio de la Aduana in Málaga, home to the Museum of Málaga, hosted the swearing-in of the new territorial delegates of the Junta de Andalucía in the province on Friday, July 31. Among them is the Antequeran Antonio García Acedo, who assumes the delegations of Economy, Finance and European Funds, and of University, Industry, Energy and Innovation, a position he has held previously but now incorporates the responsibilities of University.
A strong institutional representation from Antequera attended the event, led by Mayor Manolo Barón, who wanted to accompany García Acedo in this new step. Alongside the mayor were the first deputy mayor and vice president of the Málaga Provincial Council, Juan Rosas; deputy mayors Ana Cebrián and Teresa Molina; and also Antequeran José Ramón Carmona, first secretary of the Table of the Parliament of Andalucía.
Antonio García Acedo, former councillor and former deputy mayor of the Antequera City Council, continues to lead a delegation that gains weight within the regional organisational structure. The new structure integrates the responsibilities of University, which previously depended on another area, while maintaining those of Industry, Energy and Mines, now expanded to include Innovation. This reinforcement consolidates Antequera's presence in the Andalusian Administration at the provincial level.
The ceremony was presided over by the third vice president and councillor of Economy, Finance and European Funds, Carolina España; the councillor of Development and Mobility, Mario Muñoz-Atanet; the councillor of Employment, Business and Self-Employment, Rocío Blanco; and the delegate of the Government of the Junta in Málaga, Patricia Navarro. All of them wanted to support the new territorial team, which will be responsible for coordinating regional policies in the 103 municipalities of the province.
One of the most notable new features of the renewed team is the incorporation of Laura Soto as delegate of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development. A native of Teba, in the Guadalteba region, Soto comes from ASAJA Málaga, where she worked in the Antequera office directly assisting farmers and ranchers throughout the province. Her appointment brings agricultural management closer to an area with significant weight in the primary sector.
The complete territorial team is headed by Patricia Navarro as Government delegate. It includes, in addition to García Acedo and Soto, Miguel Briones in Education; María Rosa Morales in Housing, Youth and Land Planning, and Development and Mobility; Carlos García Giménez in Culture, Historical Heritage and Sport; Gemma del Corral in Sustainability and Environment; Lucía Yeves in Health and Consumption; Belén Rubio in Tourism, Justice, Deregulation and Local Administration; Carmen Sánchez in Employment, Business and Self-Employment, and Artificial Intelligence, Digital Development and Public Administration; and Laura Valle in Social Services, Families and Equality.
García Acedo's presence in this team is not coincidental. Antequera, as one of the most important cities in the interior of the province, has traditionally maintained a close relationship with the Junta de Andalucía, and having a territorial delegate from the city facilitates direct communication with the regional administration. For residents, this can translate into greater agility in processing aid, promoting infrastructure projects, or accessing employment and training programmes.
The swearing-in was held in an institutional atmosphere, with the presence of representatives from various areas of provincial administration. The choice of the Museum of Málaga, an emblematic 18th-century building, aimed to underscore the importance of culture and heritage in public management.
With this renewal, the Junta de Andalucía seeks to give a new impetus to its actions in the province, with a team that combines technical and political profiles.
