The Archaeological Ensemble of the Antequera Dolmens celebrates ten years as a World Heritage Site. A videomapping, dance, and theatre are part of the commemorative events that will extend until December.
On July 15, it will be exactly ten years since that day in 2016 when UNESCO inscribed the Site of the Antequera Dolmens on its World Heritage list. To celebrate, the Ministry of Culture has prepared a programme that kicks off on that very day with a videomapping show and will last until the end of the year.
Videomapping, dance, and theatre to whet the appetite
The first event is on Wednesday, July 15, at 22:00, featuring the videomapping '10 years of the Dolmens Site as a World Heritage Site'. The projection, by the Alquvimia Musicae Foundation, will combine images, music, and visual effects on the monuments themselves to tell the story of the site and the values that led UNESCO to recognise it.
The following day, Thursday 16, creator Melisa Calero presents 'La Gloria', a dance and performance show that fuses flamenco, contemporary dance, and theatre. The piece aims to engage with the heritage space and explore vulnerability as a place of transformation.
On Friday 17, it’s family time with 'The Time Machine', by the company En la Luna Teatro. This musical proposes a journey from the Bronze Age to the future, with songs and special effects, to bring history closer to the little ones.
September: official guide and poetry in Menga
After a summer break, activities resume in September. On the 12th, Venue 1 of the ensemble hosts 'The Echo of the Sea of Tethys', a theatrical reinterpretation of the legend of the Peña de los Enamorados that connects heritage, nature, and artistic creation.
On September 17, the new Official Guide to the Archaeological Ensemble of the Antequera Dolmens will be presented, a historiographical revision that covers five centuries of studies on the dolmens in accessible language and abundant graphic material.
On September 24, poet Nicolás Ramos will give a recital titled 'Songs to Menga' inside the Menga dolmen, in an intimate experience that unites poetry and megalithism.
Scientific meeting and closure
The scientific dimension of the site will be addressed on October 1 and 2 with the meeting 'Megalithism in Andalusia: Research, Conservation, and Dissemination', which will bring together specialists who have worked on the site.
The Minister of Culture, Patricia del Pozo, has emphasised that UNESCO's declaration was "a decisive boost in the international projection of the Site, consolidating it as a heritage, scientific, and educational reference". For the people of Antequera and visitors, these events are an opportunity to rediscover a legacy that, ten years later, remains one of the great prides of the province.
The complete programme and schedules can be consulted on the Archaeological Ensemble's website. Admission to all activities is free until capacity is reached.
