The Night of Folk returns to Mijas on August 19. The Torreón square in La Cala will host a new edition of this musical event starting at 22:00, featuring performances by The Stolen Gnomes and Irish Treble.
The head of the Tourism Department of Mijas, Juan Carlos Acevedo, presented the event and highlighted that these occasions “go beyond mere celebration,” as they help to expand the offerings available to residents and visitors.
“A tourist destination is also built through the experiences it offers to visitors,” Acevedo noted. In this regard, he recalled that the promotion of Mijas combines its traditional resources —Mijas Pueblo, the beaches, heritage, gastronomy, and golf courses— with a cultural and leisure programme throughout the year.
The Irish Treble group will offer a journey that goes from Iberian folk to Irish, combining music and dance to bring different expressions of this genre closer to the audience. The Stolen Gnomes will complete the evening's lineup.
The Night of Folk joins other events such as the Latin Night, Blues Night, or Jazz Night. According to Acevedo, these activities project the image of Mijas as “a dynamic, cultural destination, open and capable of offering quality programming all year round.”
“At Tourism, we firmly believe that culture and music are also tourism. Every person who comes to Mijas to enjoy a concert and shares their experience also becomes, in some way, a promoter of our destination,” he stated.
Acevedo invited residents and visitors to enjoy the event and emphasized that the goal is for those who arrive in the municipality “not to take away just an image of Mijas, but also an experience that they remember and that invites them to return.”
The performance will take place outdoors in the Torreón square, a usual space for summer concerts in La Cala. Admission is free until capacity is reached.
