The charity event, at the Europa Course of La Cala Resort, has already filled 70% of the spots. Funds will finance cancer research and patient care.
The second edition of the Golf Tournament Against Cancer at La Cala Resort will take place on Saturday, August 29, at the Europa Course of the Mijas complex, with a shotgun start at 09:00 hours. The official presentation took place this Thursday with the participation of the mayor of Mijas, Ana Mata; the president of the local branch of the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC), Mari Carmen Gómez Fabra, and the general director of La Cala Resort, Sean Corte-Real.
The tournament, under the Better Ball Stableford format, has generated great interest: registrations have already filled 70% of the available spots, according to the organizers. Each registration includes an 18-hole green fee, shared buggy, welcome pack, lunch, and awards ceremony, as well as participation in a charity raffle with gifts from collaborating companies. A portion of each fee will be directly allocated to the AECC.
During the event, Gómez Fabra thanked La Cala Resort and the Mijas Town Hall for their support and highlighted the initiative's impact: “This tournament represents much more than a sporting day. It is an opportunity for society to engage in the fight against cancer and contribute to our ability to continue funding cancer research and providing comprehensive care to patients and their families.”
The local AECC branch in Mijas assisted nearly a hundred beneficiaries in 2025, with 270 sessions of psychological, social, and oncological physiotherapy care. These free services are sustained thanks to events like this and municipal grants, as the mayor recalled. Ana Mata emphasized that support for the organization “demonstrates that it is a fundamental entity in our society, channeling the solidarity of the people of Mijas towards one of the most humane actions possible: accompanying sick individuals, medical research, and supporting families.”
The general director of La Cala Resort, Sean Corte-Real, insisted on the company's social responsibility: “Every registration, every sponsor, and every participant contributes to advancing cancer research, an essential tool for moving towards better treatments.” The resort is a regular host of the Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España, a top-level course that will welcome this charity day.
