The Andalusian government has integrated the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC) into the Seren application, developed by the Costa del Sol University Hospital and IBIMA, with the aim of providing psychological support to women with breast cancer in Málaga.
This project seeks to prevent and reduce stress, anxiety, and depression in patients undergoing treatment or survivors of breast cancer, thus facilitating a more accessible intervention tailored to their emotional needs.
Details of the SerenApp Project
SerenApp, which combines clinical research and technology, is led by professionals from the Costa del Sol University Hospital and funded by the Carlos III Health Institute. The collaboration with the AECC will enhance the dissemination of this initiative and facilitate the active participation of patients.
A psychologist from the AECC will be part of the working group, contributing her experience in patient support to create a more effective tool. This multidisciplinary approach aims to provide comprehensive and humanised care.
Moreover, the importance of alliances like this has been emphasised to foster a more cohesive community among the healthcare, research, and associative sectors.
Context and statistics of breast cancer
Breast cancer represents a significant challenge in the healthcare and social spheres. In 2024, approximately 36,000 cases were diagnosed in Spain, of which 1,283 were in women from the province of Málaga. The AECC assisted 828 patients, and the demand for psychological support was notable, highlighting the need for initiatives like SerenApp.
SerenApp is currently in technological development and has completed the co-creation phase. This agreement is a significant step towards more patient-centred care and promotes the emotional well-being of women with breast cancer.
