The First Vice President of the Junta de Andalucía, Antonio Sanz, has announced that the Integral Law against Assaults on Healthcare Professionals will be submitted to Parliament as a decree law before the end of the year. This announcement was made in Málaga, highlighting the urgency and necessity of establishing a regulation that protects healthcare workers in the exercise of their profession.
Sanz emphasized that assaults on health professionals are a problem that goes beyond public safety, becoming a significant occupational risk. This law represents the first initiative that the Ministry of Health will present in this new legislature to the Governing Council and Parliament, with the intention of establishing a national benchmark and being a pioneer in this area.
Features of the New Law
The proposed regulation will include a specific sanctioning regime, which will not be limited to financial penalties. It will also address issues such as recidivism and cyberbullying. Additionally, mechanisms will be created to facilitate that professionals can file complaints without fear, ensuring their protection throughout the process.
This announcement was made during the inauguration of the IX Conference on Occupational Risk Prevention of the Andalusian Health Service taking place in Almería, where Antonio Sanz highlighted that in 2025, 1,976 assaults against health professionals were documented in Andalucía, of which around 80% were verbal in nature.
Commitment of the Andalusian Government
Antonio Sanz pointed out that defending health professionals requires a broad view of occupational risks, including the fight against the assaults they face. The Andalusian government has developed a comprehensive strategy to address this reality, prioritizing the protection of workers in the healthcare system.
The conferences are being held in the new auditorium of the Torrecárdenas University Hospital, a modern space designed for various activities related to improving healthcare services.
