Mallorca midfielder Manu Morlanes has assured that the squad is united and that those who remain are here because they want to be. He said this after the first friendly in Marbella.
RCD Mallorca played their first pre-season friendly in Marbella on Saturday, where they won 3-0 against Saudi Al Fateh. After the match, captain Manu Morlanes delivered a message of unity and commitment: “Those who are here are here because they want to be. That is fundamental.”
The red-and-black team, which is concentrating its training on the Costa del Sol, is facing a pre-season with few friendlies, only four, but Morlanes downplayed this circumstance: “There are training sessions where we also play matches. We are aware that friendlies are the way to compete, but it will also depend a lot on daily work.”
The midfielder highlighted the good atmosphere in the dressing room and the work of the sports management, which has managed to maintain a competitive block: “A good block has been kept, the sports management has managed to form a good team. The reinforcements are young people who come to contribute a lot.”
Specifically, he referred to the continuity of players like Pablo Torre or Martin Valjent, and the recent signing of Arnau Tenas, a goalkeeper who joined the expedition in Marbella this afternoon: “The people coming in are here to add and bring that fresh air that one always catches. We need people like that.”
When asked about rotation, Morlanes pointed out that in a long season of 42 matches there will be changes: “There will be times when some will play more and others less. The important thing is that the team does not change its mindset and that we remain recognisable.”
The captain also valued the new style of the coach: “The new coach is instilling his idea in us. It’s good to start winning because that’s the way to achieve our goals.”
In comparison to last pre-season, where players like Pablo Maffeo or Cyle Larin were sidelined, Morlanes emphasized the current commitment: “It’s important to send the message that those of us who are here are here because we want to be. We are aware of the difficulty of this season and that it will be a long year in which we will need everyone.”
Mallorca faces a demanding season, and Morlanes believes that the group will be key: “The most important step to achieve the objective is to have a healthy group, and from there, when the difficult moments come, it will be easier to get through them all.”
The next friendly for Mallorca will be against PSG, a match that Morlanes considers special: “There’s one against PSG, that one is worth double.”
