The Marbella City Council has mobilised five firefighters with two specialised vehicles to assist in extinguishing the forest fire affecting the province of Ávila. The team departed last night alongside the Provincial Consortium of Málaga Firefighters.
The forest fire ravaging the province of Ávila has mobilised personnel from across Spain, and from the province of Málaga, a team of five firefighters from the Marbella Fire Extinction Service has set out. The operation, which left last night, includes a heavy rural fire engine and a light all-terrain vehicle, and will operate in coordination with the Provincial Consortium of Málaga Firefighters under the direction of emergency authorities.
The Councillor for Citizen Security in Marbella, José Eduardo Díaz, has expressed gratitude for the willingness of the municipal agents and highlighted the rapid response of the team. “From the very first moment they were ready to receive the call to provide their support in one of the most serious incidents currently occurring in our country,” he noted.
Díaz has emphasised the commitment of the professionals deployed, who participate “giving up days of rest and vacation,” as well as the effort of the personnel who remain in Marbella to ensure service coverage during a period of high activity. “The firefighters who are deployed will carry out essential work, but I also want to thank those who stay behind, as they will have to take on a greater workload to maintain the safety of our city at a particularly complex time,” he stated.
The head of the Marbella Fire Extinction Service, Medardo Tudela, explained that the deployment is carried out in coordination with other administrations to ensure maximum effectiveness. “It is important to always act under the coordination of the competent authorities. This way, available resources are optimised, team rotations are facilitated, and operational capacity is improved during an intervention of this nature,” he indicated.
For his part, Corporal Santiago Borrego, in charge of the deployed team, stated that the personnel will provide “all their experience, knowledge, and material resources,” acting according to the needs determined by the operation's leaders. He detailed that the heavy rural fire engine Bravo 16 is prepared for both forest fires and urban-forest interface areas, “allowing for the protection of homes thanks to the specific equipment it incorporates.”
This fire, which began several days ago, has already devastated thousands of hectares and forced the evacuation of numerous populations. Adverse weather conditions, with high temperatures and wind, have complicated extinguishing efforts. The arrival of reinforcements from various provinces, such as Málaga, is key to containing the fire's advance.
From Marbella, it is expected that the team will remain in Ávila for several days, depending on the evolution of the fire. The City Council keeps the families of the deployed firefighters informed and has assured that all service needs in the city will be met.
Collaboration between administrations is common in large-scale emergencies. The Provincial Consortium of Málaga Firefighters has already participated in other forest fires outside the province, such as those that occurred in previous years in the Sierra de Gredos or in the province of Huelva.
For the residents of Marbella, this action reinforces the image of solidarity and professionalism of the local fire department, which faces an extra workload in summer due to the increase in fires and the holidays of personnel. The City Council has reminded that, despite the deployment of these personnel, the city maintains its usual emergency operation.
