The Marbella City Council has activated the Municipal Emergency Plan at pre-alert level following the orange alert for high temperatures issued by the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), which includes support for vulnerable groups and fire monitoring.
The Marbella City Council has activated the Municipal Emergency Plan in pre-alert phase due to the orange alert for high temperatures declared by the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) for the area. The measure, aimed at minimising the risks of the heatwave, mobilises various municipal departments to especially protect the most vulnerable groups.
Municipal coordination and support for vulnerable groups
The Councillor for Citizen Health, José Eduardo Díaz, explained that the protocol includes immediate communication to all involved areas to enhance monitoring of those who may suffer more from the high temperatures. “Our goal is to anticipate any incidents and coordinate all municipal resources to protect the population, especially those in a situation of greater vulnerability,” he stated.
Díaz reminded everyone of the importance of following health authority recommendations: avoiding sun exposure during peak hours, staying hydrated, and paying special attention to elderly people, children, and those with chronic illnesses.
The Social Rights department has intensified contact with elderly care homes, users of the FARO programme, and beneficiaries of the teleassistance service to provide preventive advice and support. Attention to homeless individuals has also been reinforced, providing them with food and hydration to reduce the risks of heat.
Healthcare reinforcement and fire prevention
The Health Department maintains communication with the municipality's hospitals to provide support in case of any incidents, particularly regarding cooling systems and other needs arising from extreme temperatures.
The plan includes reinforcing the Fire Prevention and Extinction Service, which increases preventive and surveillance efforts in mountain areas to minimise the risk of wildfires during these days of intense heat.
Civil Protection has activated an extraordinary team of volunteers to address any needs and collaborate with other operational services while the alert is in effect. For the residents of Marbella, the main recommendation is to exercise extreme caution and follow official guidelines, especially during peak solar radiation hours.
