The Lope de Vega Theatre in Vélez-Málaga launches its programme on October 31 for the last quarter featuring Pasión Vega, Pitingo, The Lion King and a Jerez zambomba, among other events.
The Lope de Vega Theatre in Vélez-Málaga has presented its programme for the last months of 2026, which will kick off on October 31 and run until December with offerings for all audiences. The mayor, Jesús Lupiáñez, has unveiled a lineup that includes music, comedy, musicals, flamenco, and family shows.
Among the highlighted names are Pasión Vega, who will perform on November 7 with her show Pasión Almodóvar, dedicated to the songs from Pedro Almodóvar's films; Pitingo, who will present his Christmas show on December 4; and comedian Comandante Lara, who will take the stage on November 14. The musical The Lion King will also return on November 29, following the positive reception of its previous run at the theatre.
The programme opens on October 31 with a tribute to Juan Breva by the Antonio Guerra Company, a proposal linked to the history of flamenco and the cultural identity of the municipality. The following day, November 1, the family musical Beauty and the Beast will be performed. On November 28, the Asprovélez Monologue Gala, which has been held for years in Torre del Mar, will move to the Lope de Vega, and on December 5, Cantajuegos with clown Tallarín will arrive for the children's audience.
On December 12, the theatre will host Manuel de Periquín's Christmas, a flamenco zambomba directed by Jerez guitarist Manuel de Periquín, bringing traditional Jerez carols to Vélez-Málaga. Lupiáñez has stated that the programme aims for “anyone to find a reason to come to the Lope de Vega,” combining nationally renowned artists with local and family-friendly proposals.
“The Lope de Vega has returned to stay, and this programme shows that we are witnessing much more than the reopening of a theatre: we are reclaiming a space that is once again part of our city's life,” the mayor affirmed.
Since its reopening on March 20, over 20,000 spectators have visited the performance space, which has hosted artists such as José Mercé, Rosario Flores, Diana Navarro, Manu Sánchez, and El Brujo. The City Council highlights the impact of this activity on the Historic Centre, with increased foot traffic in its streets and a positive effect on bars, terraces, and shops.
Tickets for the shows will be available soon through the theatre's usual channels, according to the City Council.
