The City Council of Fuengirola is running two gardening courses for 20 people and will activate eight more in October for an additional 120 unemployed individuals. The Department of Training and Employment has requested 23 courses from the Regional Government and the Provincial Council.
The City Council of Fuengirola has strengthened its training programmes for unemployed individuals with the aim of improving the employability of this sector of the population. The mayor, Ana Mula, along with the councillor for Training and Employment, Isaac Vargas, visited two courses on garden maintenance and green areas on Wednesday, which involve 20 unemployed residents of Fuengirola.
In the coming weeks, the Council will launch eight more training activities that will benefit 120 unemployed people in the municipality. Four of these correspond to the Provincial Council's 'On the Road' programme: reception in tourist establishments, kitchen assistant, administrative assistant with accounting, and basic operations for rooms and accommodation. Municipal technicians are finalising the selection of students for these four actions.
The Department itself announced this week the opening of the registration period for four other initiatives: commercial English, digital skills, intermediate office automation, and artificial intelligence. Interested individuals can register through the website fuengirola.portalemp.com or via the mobile app Fuengirola + Employment, where all announcements are published.
The two gardening courses already underway are part of the Training and Employment programme of the Regional Government of Andalusia. The mayor highlighted the economic context of the municipality: "Fuengirola is experiencing a good economic moment. From an employment perspective, we have been seeing a decline in unemployment for years. We have reduced the number of unemployed to below 4,000 and have the best figures in the last nineteen years, considering that twenty years ago we had 20,000 fewer inhabitants."
Mula added that, although training and employment policies are not a municipal responsibility, local councils "can and should lend a hand to our neighbours who find it most difficult to access the job market." The mayor encouraged unemployed individuals to check the website and social media of the Department to learn about upcoming courses and register.
The Department of Training and Employment has also requested the granting of 23 courses for unemployed individuals from both the Regional Government of Andalusia and the Provincial Council in order to continue expanding the training offer. Registrations for the four already announced actions remain open on the municipal website.
