The IX Half Marathon Ciudad de Fuengirola has sold out with 2,500 places for the 21.097 kilometres and 500 for the 5-kilometre race. This marks a historic record for participation and the earliest sell-out since the event began.
The organisation of the IX Half Marathon Ciudad de Fuengirola has closed registrations after filling all 3,000 spots. The event will take place on Sunday, 8 November, with 52 days remaining until the race, marking the earliest completion of the quota since the competition started.
Of the total spots, 2,500 are for the main event of 21.097 kilometres and the remaining 500 are for the 5-kilometre race. The organisation has decided not to increase the number of spots to ensure safety conditions along the route and maintain standards of care for participants, despite numerous requests from runners who were unable to secure a spot.
The growth of the event has been continuous. The Half Marathon increased from 844 runners in 2022 to 2,500 in this edition. Overall participation has risen from 1,379 participants in 2023 to 3,000 in 2026. Female participation also sets a record: from 180 women in 2022 to 1,081 expected this year.
The event continues to attract runners from abroad. This edition will feature 322 runners from 26 nationalities, many of whom have travelled specifically to Fuengirola, contributing to the municipality's visibility during the low season. The completely flat route passes by the Puente de la Armada, Castillo Sohail, Plaza de Toros, Paseo Marítimo, Los Boliches, and the area around the Recinto Ferial.
The Runner's Fair will expand its presence this year in the Plaza de España in the days leading up to the event, featuring companies and offerings related to sports, sportswear, leisure, health, nutrition, and aesthetics. The start and finish will be at the Recinto Ferial from 9:30 AM.
After the race, the Recinto Ferial will host a party with a DJ, entertainment, a prize draw, and free paella for the 2,500 participants of the Half Marathon, prepared by the Peña Los Artistas Culinarios with sponsorship, for the second year, from Clínica Dental Castilla Bersabé. Runners will also have access to a photo flash alongside the giant medal, a recording of the medal with their personal time, a free play area for children aged 4 to 12, physiotherapy services, and showers at the Pabellón Juan Gómez 'Juanito'. Throughout the route, there will be a marching band, a batucada on the Paseo Marítimo, and a performance by drummer Pedro Cuevas Jr., with a speaker and DJ in the finish area.
The runner's bag includes a shoe bag, socks, a sublimated t-shirt, a wristband, a water bottle, and a wristband, with the collaboration of Top Gestión, which the organisation highlights for its support of the event and local sports. The operation will be coordinated by the Department of Sports of the Fuengirola City Council along with the Local Police and health services, with up to 300 volunteers and an operation of ambulances and medical and nursing personnel.
