Estepona expands its fleet of adapted taxis with five new licenses

The municipality will have 95 accessible vehicles after adding five new licenses, approved with a favourable report from the Junta de Andalucía.

The Estepona Town Hall has green-lighted the incorporation of five new adapted taxis to the local fleet, which will increase from the current 90 licenses to a total of 95 accessible vehicles. The measure, already approved by the Council, has the favourable report from the General Directorate of Mobility and Transport of the Ministry of Development, Territorial Coordination and Housing of the Junta de Andalucía.

According to the Council, these new vehicles will have capacity for up to nine seats and will join the service with the aim of improving service for residents and visitors, as well as responding to the growing demand for mobility that the city is experiencing.

The regional report justifies the need for this expansion due to the notable population growth that Estepona has experienced over the last fourteen years, particularly between 2020 and 2025, a period in which the municipal census increased by almost 10,000 new inhabitants.

This increase is compounded by the high floating population that the municipality supports due to its marked tourist character, as well as the increase in economic activity, which has intensified movements both between the different population centres of Estepona and with the rest of the province of Málaga.

With this action, the Town Hall takes another step in its commitment to offer more efficient, accessible, and higher quality public transport, according to municipal sources.

The measure will directly benefit people with reduced mobility and large families, who will have more options for travelling with guarantees. The new adapted taxis will join the existing fleet, which will help reduce waiting times during peak demand, especially in high season.

The Council has reminded that this expansion is part of a broader strategy to improve urban public transport, which also includes the renewal of the conventional fleet and the improvement of stops and waiting areas.

The entry into operation of the new licenses is pending the usual administrative procedures, although the Town Hall is confident that the new vehicles will be able to provide service in the coming months.
