The Estepona City Council is advancing in the Neighbourhood Plan with a comprehensive action in Sierra Estepona that includes 98 new parking spaces, traffic reorganisation, and the planting of 90 trees.
The Estepona City Council has launched a new phase of the Neighbourhood Plan in the Sierra Estepona area, with a package of actions that includes the creation of 98 additional parking spaces, the improvement of pavements, and the planting of nearly 90 shade trees. The Deputy Mayor for Services and External Control, Blas Ruzafa, has detailed the interventions, which aim to improve the quality of life for residents and mobility in the area.
The traffic reorganisation will affect three main roads. On Miguel Clavijo Street, the number of parking spaces will increase from 36 to 70; on Pilar Bardem, from 30 to 53; and on Alejo Carpentier, from 38 to 79. In total, 98 new spaces will be added to those already existing in the neighbourhood.
Additionally, the City Council is preparing two plots that are already being used as parking areas. The work includes compacting the ground, concreting the access points, marking the spaces, and fencing the perimeter. This measure aims to organise parking in the area and prevent safety issues or soil deterioration.
The improvements are not limited to parking. The plan includes repairing the pavement in several sections, widening sidewalks, and lowering pedestrian crossings to facilitate mobility for people with reduced mobility. The lighting throughout the residential perimeter will also be replaced with more efficient fixtures, which will result in energy savings and improved night-time safety.
In terms of road safety, speed bumps will be installed on those roads where it has been detected that vehicles are travelling at speeds above the recommended limits. This traffic calming measure aims to protect pedestrians and reduce accidents in the neighbourhood.
Finally, about 90 shade trees will be planted to increase the tree mass, create new shaded areas, improve environmental quality, and beautify the surroundings. According to Ruzafa, these actions have been planned in collaboration with representatives of the residents' communities, addressing their demands and needs.
The Neighbourhood Plan is a municipal initiative aimed at improving and reinforcing the maintenance of residential and commercial spaces in Estepona. With these actions, the City Council is advancing in a model of a city that combines infrastructure and public service improvements with environmental care and the creation of sustainable spaces.
Residents of Sierra Estepona will see these works executed in the coming weeks, which will be added to other interventions carried out in other neighbourhoods of the municipality. The City Council has highlighted that these improvements will contribute to increasing the quality of life for residents and revitalising the area.
Blas Ruzafa has stated that the City Council continues to work to extend the Neighbourhood Plan to other areas of the city, always in contact with residents' associations to prioritise the most demanded actions.
