The Town Hall of Casares and Red Cross are exploring an agreement that would allow for the direct activation of the entity's resources in emergency situations, improving coordination and support for residents.
The Town Hall of Casares has begun discussions with Red Cross for the signing of a collaboration agreement to strengthen the municipal response capacity in emergencies. The mayor, Juan Luis Villalón, and the councillor for Social Services, Ana Umbría, met this week with provincial and regional representatives of the entity to advance the terms of the agreement.
Participants in the meeting included Lope Javier Núñez González, head of the Emergency Team of Red Cross in Estepona, and Cristina Fité, provincial head of Emergencies. Both presented the human and material resources that the organisation could make available to the municipality.
The main objective of the agreement is for the Town Hall to be able to directly activate Red Cross resources when a risk situation arises, without the need for intermediaries. This would allow for a more agile and effective response, complementing the work of local emergency services.
Among the resources considered are basic intervention teams, the installation and management of temporary shelters for affected individuals, logistical support, psychosocial response teams, and the coordination of these devices with municipal services and other emergency operations.
The meeting also served to address other lines of collaboration focused on prevention and citizen awareness. Training activities are planned in educational centres and associations for the elderly to promote a culture of self-protection, as well as risk assessment and advice to improve the municipality's preparedness.
Mayor Villalón highlighted the importance of this agreement to "offer greater protection to citizens" and advance emergency planning. For her part, Councillor Umbría emphasised that "collaboration with Red Cross is essential to complement municipal resources and ensure comprehensive support for residents in times of need."
Both parties will continue to work on the development of the agreement in the coming weeks, with the expectation that it can be signed before the end of the year. Once in effect, Casares would join the network of municipalities that already have such agreements with the humanitarian organisation.
For the residents of Casares, this agreement will mean greater peace of mind, as it guarantees a coordinated and rapid response to any eventuality, from fires to floods or health emergencies. The initiative is part of the municipal strategy to strengthen civil protection and public safety.
