The Pedro Romero Fair and Festivals in Ronda, which will take place from September 1 to 6, will feature a dozen booths for associations and three aimed at young people, as announced by the Councillor for Festivals, Rebeca Muñoz.
Ronda is finalising preparations for its Pedro Romero Fair and Festivals, which will be held from September 1 to 6. The Festivals Department, led by Rebeca Muñoz, has intensified the pace of work to ensure everything is ready. The councillor has visited the Ángel Harillo Fairgrounds, the epicentre of the celebration, to detail this year's news.
Muñoz explained that the Fair will have a dozen booths set up by the associations, grouped under the Ronda Association of Associations (ASOPE). In addition, three booths will be specifically aimed at young people. Furthermore, work is underway on the installation of lighting, shaded areas, and services, as well as the selfie points that were already placed in previous editions. The decoration will be inspired by Andalusian themes.
The detailed programme for the Fair will be announced shortly, as the councillor has indicated. However, the official poster and those for complementary activities have already been presented. One of the highlights will be the revival of the bullfighting festivities, with the 67th Goyesca Bullfight, featuring Morante de la Puebla, José María Manzanares, Juan Ortega, and the horseman Diego Ventura. The 42nd Rondeña Bullfight on Horseback will also take place, in tribute to Álvaro Domecq Romero, with Rui Fernandes, Diego Ventura, Joao Ribeiro Telles, Lea Vicens, Sebastián Fernández, and Duarte Fernandes. The bullfighting programme includes the Extraordinary Novillada Sin Picadores, with Jaime de Pedro, Armando Rojo, and Héctor Nieto, and the exhibition contest of Carriages.
The programme of preliminary events kicks off with the LVI Festival of Cante Grande on August 22, featuring Duquende, Miguel de Tena, and Rocío Luna singing, and Julio Romero, El Chino, and Francis Gómez playing. The winners of the Aniya La Gitana Contest from the Ronda Flamenco Association will also perform: Antonio López singing and Domingo Muñoz El Parra dancing. On August 29 and 30, the LII edition of Las Galas will take place, with performances from Turkey, India, Mexico, France, Easter Island, and Ciudad Real, in addition to Ronda. On September 3, the XVII Contest of Equestrian Clothing and Tack will be held at the fairgrounds.
The opening speech of the Fair will be given by the mayor of Grazalema, Carlos García, on August 20 at the Blas Infante Auditorium at 21:00 hours. This gesture strengthens the ties between the two municipalities, after Ronda hosted over 600 residents of Grazalema who had to leave their homes earlier this year due to the effects of a series of storms. The X Taurine Speech of the Goyesca will be delivered by journalist, historian, and politician Cayetana Álvarez de Toledo on September 4.
Another charitable event prior to the Fair will be the Dinner in aid of the victims of the earthquake in Venezuela, on August 27 at 21:00 hours at the Convent of Santo Domingo. Reservations can be made through the Group of Brotherhoods and Guilds of Ronda, with a donation of 45 euros.
The Ronda Fair is supported by the Junta de Andalucía, the Unicaja Foundation, the Málaga Provincial Council, the Ronda Equestrian Sports Club, the Abul Beka Cultural Folklore Association, Ronda Choirs and Dances, and Ronda Tourism.
