The parade on September 1 opens the Pedro Romero Fair and Festivities in Ronda, which this year revives the Goyesca Bullfight and other bullfighting events. The lighting will be turned on without fireworks due to the risk of fires.
Ronda celebrates its Pedro Romero Fair and Festivities starting this Tuesday, September 1, which will last until Sunday, September 6. The parade will depart at 20:30 from the vicinity of the Hotel Catalonia Reina Victoria and will kick off a programme that this year revives the bullfighting festivities, including the Goyesca Bullfight.
The Councillor for Festivities, Concha Muñoz, has detailed that the parade will feature nine floats, two of which will be free for children. Groups from the Galas of Isla de Pascua, France, Mexico, Ciudad Real, and India will also participate. Following the procession, at around 22:30, the lighting will be turned on at the Ángel Harillo Fairgrounds, without fireworks, following the recommendation of the Junta de Andalucía due to the high risk of fires.
The mayor, Mari Paz Fernández, visited the venue on Monday to finalise details. The reception for the President and the Goyesca Ladies will be held at the Peña Cayetano tent. Access to the fairgrounds will be available by train and bus, and three parking areas have been set up with nearly a thousand spaces: in the old fairgrounds, in the traditional area next to the fairgrounds, and in the land next to the train station, where the City Council, after renting the land from Adif, will also establish a permanent parking area.
This year, the Fair regains its splendour after the rehabilitation works on the bullring, with the Novillada, the Corrida de Rejones, and the Goyesca. The Exhibition Contest of Carriages also returns to the historic venue. Among the highlighted events are the concert by Miguel Campello and the World Ham Championship.
“We will have the participation, as always, of the groups from the Galas, this year from Isla de Pascua, France, Mexico, Ciudad Real, and India, which will add even more colour to the parade; and other entertainments that I believe will be very well received,” said Muñoz.
The programme includes the concert of Miguel Campello ‘El Bicho’ on Wednesday 2 at 23:00. On Thursday 3, at 15:00, the XVII Contest of Equestrian Clothing and Tack will take place. On Friday 4, at 18:00, the Novillada Sin Picadores will occur with Jaime de Pedro, Armando Rojo, and Héctor Nieto, and at 20:30 the X Taurine Proclamation of the Goyesca will be given by Cayetana Álvarez de Toledo at the Convent of Santo Domingo.
On Saturday 5, at 11:30, the 42nd Rondeña Bullfight of Rejones, a tribute to Álvaro Domecq Romero, will take place, featuring Rui Fernandes, Diego Ventura, Joao Ribeiro Telles, Lea Vicens, Sebastián Fernández, and Duarte Fernandes. At 18:00, the 67th Traditional Goyesca Bullfight will feature Morante de la Puebla, José María Manzanares, and Juan Ortega, along with the rejoneador Diego Ventura. On Sunday 6, the 46th Exhibition Contest of Carriages will take place, with a stop at 10:00 on Virgen de la Paz street and an exhibition at 12:00 in the bullring.
