Councillor Teresa Porras advocates for a Málaga Fair with a dual offering: the Fairgrounds and a Historic Centre with its own identity, live music, and activities for locals and tourists.

The Málaga Fair 2026 has introduced a new balance between the Fairgrounds and the Historic Centre. The Councillor for Operational Services, Internal Regime, Beaches, and Festivals, Teresa Porras, has argued that the old town should once again have its own proposal within the festive programme, aiming for the celebration not to be solely linked to the Cortijo de Torres venue.

In an interview granted to 101TV during the Fair special, Porras reflected on the start of the festivities, which began with the Night of Fires and the first official day of activities. The councillor emphasised that the City Council is working to balance the festival with the lives of the residents in the centre, an area that had lost prominence in the Day Fair in previous years.

The recovery of the Centre has become one of the priorities of the City Council. As Porras explained, the municipal proposal combines music, activities, and the participation of establishments and groups, in order to attract both Málaga residents and tourists visiting the city during this time.

The councillor acknowledged that, in the past, the Fair in the Centre did not offer the desired level of quality, especially after 6:00 PM, when the dynamics of the area did not correspond to a celebration suitable for a populated space. Therefore, the City Council took on the task of redirecting the activity and changing the existing perception.

“The recovery of the space must be done with a specific offering and with respect for those who live there,” Porras noted, defending a distributed vision of the Fair: the Fairgrounds maintain their role, but the centre must retain its own identity. “Having two areas with activity allows each person to choose the place they prefer,” she added.

Live Music and Varied Programming

Among the spaces mentioned by the councillor are the Plaza de la Constitución, Plaza de las Flores, and Plaza del Obispo, where live music and other proposals are planned for those who visit the centre during the Day Fair. The offering does not depend solely on the City Council: Porras also mentioned the programming from hotels and brotherhoods, which expand the options for Málaga residents and visitors.

The start of the Fair was marked by the Pilgrimage to the Sanctuary of the Virgen de la Victoria and the opening speech delivered by Juanfran Funes, coach of Málaga CF. The white-and-blue coach dedicated his speech to the team, in an event that captured much of the attention on the inaugural day.

The programming for the Málaga Fair 2026 extends over several days, with activities both in the Historic Centre and at the Fairgrounds. The schedules for the free events and concerts are available in the guide prepared by the City Council for this edition.

For the residents of the centre, the recovery of the Day Fair represents an opportunity to enjoy the festivities without needing to travel to the venue, although it also poses the challenge of ensuring coexistence between festive activity and daily life. The City Council is confident that the new offering, spread throughout the historic centre, will meet the expectations of both residents and visitors.
