The Magical Fair of Málaga has inaugurated its 30th edition in Plaza de la Merced with a space parade. The event, which runs until 15:30, offers workshops, theatre, and magic for the little ones.

Plaza de la Merced in Málaga has become this Thursday the starting point for an imaginary journey into space with the inauguration of the Magical Fair, which this year revolves around the theme 'From Earth to the Moon'. The event, driven by the Málaga City Council's Festival Department, celebrates its 30th anniversary with a programme full of activities for children.

The colourful parade, which began with the instruction to 'fasten your seatbelts', gave way from 12:00 to a day of music, games, performances, participatory workshops, theatre, puppetry, and magic that will last until 15:30. The planets and satellites central to the main theme have been the stars of the decorations and stage proposals.

“We usually ask the children because they are the ones who choose it, and several children last year said they wanted the theme of space and the moon. The mind of a child is wonderful,” explains Alberto Díaz de la Quintana, the event's promoter.

Díaz, a versatile artist dedicated to children's performing arts, conceived this initiative three decades ago with the belief that the Málaga Fair should reserve a space for the little ones. Practically all the companies participating are local, an aspect that highlights the event's close-knit character.

Raquel, who has been attending every year since the birth of her daughter Victoria, who is six years old, positively values this initiative: “This space is greatly appreciated so that they can enjoy the fair”, she comments while the little girl enjoys the carousel and magic games.

An Inclusive Space with Values

The Magical Fair is conceived as a space distinct from the Real and the Historic Centre, where children participate in different 'missions to defeat boredom'. This is the focus of the play 'The Journey of the Stars', performed by the Pili Company, which has been attending the event for about a decade.

“In this play, they need to set up a fair on the moon and are going to send a rocket with castanets and fans so that the Moon doesn't get sad. This way, they defeat the evil Super Boredom,” describes Pilar Esteban, the company's director.

Inclusion is another pillar of this edition: the play features a sign language interpreter so that all children can enjoy it. Additionally, in the various tents, there has been a special emphasis on respect for the environment and values such as coexistence and respect among people.

The Magical Fair will continue to offer its activities today in Plaza de la Merced, with free entry, until 15:30. An event that has established itself as an essential alternative for Málaga families during the fair.
