The first night of the Málaga Fair has turned preventive breathalysers into a game among young people, who queue to compare their scores. The dynamic, which went viral last year, is repeated at the Real de Cortijo de Torres.
The first night of the Málaga Fair has once again provided images that blend prevention and fun at the Real de Cortijo de Torres. Several groups of young people have queued in front of the breathalysers installed at the venue to check their alcohol levels and compare them with their friends, turning the device into a kind of informal competition.
“Let’s see who blows the highest,” was heard among some attendees, who approached the device, blew into it, and waited with laughter for the result. One participant explained: “We came to try it because we were all together and thought it would be funny to see who blows the highest.”
This scene is not new. Last year, the same dynamic went viral on platforms like TikTok and Instagram, when Málaga content creators shared videos testing their alcohol levels in a humorous tone. Now, the trend has repeated itself at the Real, where some attendees have taken it up as if it were a game.
From preventive tool to game among friends
The breathalysers were installed as a measure of prevention and road safety, so that those who have consumed alcohol can have a reference before deciding how to get home and check if they are fit to drive. However, some groups use them as a game among friends, while others approach them out of simple curiosity.
“We came here on foot and will return by taxi, but we wanted to try it out of curiosity,” recounted another attendee. The night also left litter, cups, and drink remnants on the streets of the Real, a common sight in the early days of the fair.
The initiative, promoted by the Málaga City Council, aims to raise awareness about the risks of driving under the influence of alcohol. For attendees, the message seems clear: if you drink, don’t drive. The fair continues until next weekend, with breathalysers available at various points throughout the venue.
