More than 5,700 doctors working in the public health system of Málaga province are called to join the indefinite state strike that will begin on October 28. The announcement, as reported by Diario Sur, was confirmed by medical unions on Friday after weeks of disagreements with the Ministry of Health over the draft of the Framework Statute.
The Andalusian Medical Union (SMA) was responsible for setting the date after its delegates met this morning. In a message sent to the media, the organization explains: "The medical and healthcare unions announce the start date of the indefinite state strike: October 28. For a statute of our own for the medical and healthcare profession."

The text that has stirred emotions is the new Framework Statute, approved by the Council of Ministers on September 1 and already sent to the Congress of Deputies for final processing. Among its most debated points are a maximum working week of 45 hours and on-call shifts of up to 17 hours, conditions that the healthcare professionals consider insufficient and far from their historical demands.
The union response has been swift. On September 2, the Strike Committee, which includes the SMA, agreed to move towards an indefinite strike in October. On September 8, the State Confederation of Medical Unions (CESM) formally proposed an indefinite and uninterrupted strike. The following day, seven organizations within the new Medical and Healthcare Union (UMYF) also announced their intention to call for strikes. On Thursday, September 10, both movements agreed to unify the mobilization and on Friday they set the start date.
In Málaga, the call affects more than 5,700 doctors who provide services in hospitals, health centres, and emergency services of the Andalusian public health system. The adherence to the strike and the minimum services decreed by the Administration will determine the real impact on patient care starting October 28.
