The province of Málaga mobilises 27 firefighters and 12 vehicles towards the fire in Burgohondo (Ávila), which has already burned more than 50,000 hectares. The operation, coordinated by the Provincial Consortium, departs tonight from Antequera.
A total of 27 firefighters and 12 vehicles from the province of Málaga will travel tonight to Ávila to join the firefighting efforts for the forest fire declared in the town of Burgohondo. This fire, which has already burned more than 50,000 hectares, is considered the largest forest fire recorded in Spain.
The bulk of the Málaga contingent corresponds to the Provincial Consortium of Firefighters (CPB), dependent on the Málaga Provincial Council, which will provide 15 personnel and five vehicles, including two heavy and three light ones. The departure is scheduled for 11:00 PM from the Antequera fire station.
Joining the CPB's operation are personnel from the fire stations in Fuengirola, Marbella, and Benalmádena. Fuengirola is sending seven firefighters and three vehicles; Marbella, five personnel and two vehicles; and Benalmádena, four firefighters and another two vehicles. All of them will integrate into the operational command once they arrive in the province of Ávila.
The mobilisation responds to a request from the Ávila Provincial Council, channelled through the Association of Consortiums and Fire Services of Spain (ConBé). The Málaga teams will collaborate in extinguishing the fire, protecting inhabited areas, providing logistical support, and defending strategic infrastructures.
The president of the Málaga Provincial Council, Francisco Salado, has expressed his support for the affected population and highlighted the importance of cooperation between administrations. "In times like this, the first thing is to stand by the people who are suffering the consequences of the fire and all the professionals who work tirelessly to protect lives, homes, and natural spaces," he stated.
Salado also emphasised that the response from the Provincial Consortium reflects "the vocation of public service and the capacity for cooperation" of Málaga's emergency services.
The Burgohondo fire remains active under adverse conditions, with high temperatures and wind. This fire alone exceeds 50,000 hectares affected. Combined with the large fires recorded in Madrid and Toledo, the burned area in the region exceeds 75,000 hectares, with more than 90,000 people evacuated or confined.
With this deployment, Málaga reinforces the national operation working to contain one of the most devastating fires in recent decades. The aim is to minimise the consequences for the population and natural heritage.
