Málaga Regional University Hospital has executed a total of nine organ transplants in a short period of just three days. This number includes six kidney transplants and three liver transplants, reflecting the capacity and dedication of the medical team.
According to reports, the institution has performed 186 transplants during 2026, of which 134 have been kidney transplants in adults. This effort requires collaboration from different medical disciplines and the commitment of a large number of health professionals.
Gratitude to the professionals
Abel García, the medical director of the hospital, expressed his gratitude to all the professionals who make this activity possible. He highlighted the dedication and service vocation of the staff, as well as the fundamental role played by transplant coordinators in times of great pressure.
In his speech, García emphasized the importance of support from the Andalusian Transplant Coordination, which decisively contributes to the effectiveness of these surgical processes.
Donations and patient follow-up
The transplant activity in Málaga is made possible thanks to the generosity of donors and their families. In 2026, up to September 11, there have been 67 organ donors recorded in the province, of which 31 came from the Málaga Regional University Hospital.
Follow-up of patients after transplants is a continuous process aimed at achieving the best clinical outcomes and improving the quality of life for those receiving a new organ.
