Gathering of condemnation at Málaga Regional University Hospital

Málaga Regional University Hospital, part of the Andalusian Health Service, held a gathering to express its rejection of the assault suffered by two nurses from the A&E Department. The event took place this morning on the steps leading to Pavilion B, where various authorities and professionals from the sector gathered.

Among the attendees was the territorial delegate for Health and Consumer Affairs in Málaga, Lucía Yeves, the hospital's managing director, José Antonio Ortega, and the president of the Official Nursing College of Málaga, José Miguel Carrasco. All expressed their support for the affected professionals and a firm condemnation of any form of violence in the healthcare sector.

Events and security measures

The incidents occurred last Thursday afternoon in the triage area of the A&E Department. A violent episode triggered the activation of the Prevention and Response Plan against Assaults of the Andalusian Health Service. Thanks to the immediate use of the 'red button', security personnel were able to intervene quickly, preventing the assault from escalating.

Lucía Yeves, the health delegate, expressed the support of the Ministry of Presidency, Health and Emergencies for the nurses and emphasised the importance of protecting workers in the healthcare system. She assured that a future Law against Assaults on Healthcare System Professionals will allow for a more efficient and effective response to these situations.

José Antonio Ortega, for his part, thanked the swift action of the security personnel and reaffirmed the hospital's absolute commitment to the protection of its professionals. He highlighted that violence has no place in an environment where respect should prevail in relationships between professionals and citizens.

Málaga Regional University Hospital continues to implement its Prevention and Response Plan against Assaults, which includes immediate protection measures and healthcare, legal and psychological assistance for the affected, as well as collaboration with the Security Forces to clarify what occurred.
