The new social network Málaga Match has brought together around 40 people from 18 nationalities at its first meeting, held at the Terraza de San Juan. The initiative, driven by entrepreneur Hélène Mostertman, aims to mix cultures and break the usual circles in the city.
Around 40 people from 18 different nationalities gathered this Wednesday at the Terraza de San Juan to launch Málaga Match, a network that seeks to connect long-time locals with those who have been in the city for years and with newcomers. The information, reported by Diario Sur, details that the project is spearheaded by entrepreneur Hélène Mostertman, former owner of the restaurant Vino Mío.
The goal is for people who would probably never meet to have the opportunity to get to know each other. “It is not a dating platform or a traditional networking event. The idea is not to come with a specific professional goal or to look for a partner, but simply to meet new people, converse, discover other cultures and create connections in a natural way,” explains Mostertman.
At this first meeting, 18 nationalities were represented: Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, France, Portugal, Canada, the United States, Argentina, Colombia, Venezuela, Peru, Cuba, Switzerland, Hungary, Bangladesh, Thailand, and Ecuador.
The event also serves as an opportunity to practice languages. For newcomers, it can be a way to improve their Spanish, and for many Spaniards, it is an occasion to practice English or other languages they know but do not use enough.
“The goal is to create a community that continues after each meeting, where people can stay in touch, share interests, do activities together, and truly feel part of Málaga”
Mostertman decided to launch the platform after noticing that Málaga is becoming an increasingly international city and that newcomers and those who already lived here often move in separate circles. “The intention is to bring those worlds closer together and facilitate real connections between people of different nationalities, ages, and profiles,” she adds.
Málaga Match does not stop at a single event: each edition will be held at a different rooftop in the city to discover new spaces and give each meeting a distinct atmosphere. The second edition is scheduled for Thursday 8 October and already has approximately half of its capacity filled, after the first one quickly reached full capacity.
