The Teatro Cervantes hosted the sixth edition of the Ciudad de Málaga Awards, which recognised Juanfran Funes, Aganova, Gran Hotel Miramar, Safamotor, Teléfono de la Esperanza and Carlos Álvarez, among others.
This year's sixth edition of the Ciudad de Málaga Awards took place at the Teatro Cervantes, a change of venue from previous events held on Calle Roma. The gala, presented by journalists Jorge Gallardo and Celia Bermejo, paid tribute to the awardees with an atlas as a symbol, as reported by Diario Sur.
The mayor of Málaga, Paco de la Torre, explained before the start that the aim of these awards is to "encourage and value that many people strive to make Málaga an incredible city" and that their "work for the common good" is recognised.
In the Sports category, the coach of Málaga CF, Juanfran Funes, could not attend due to a match at La Rosaleda, but sent a video in which he expressed: "My gratitude to the fans and the club, but especially to our players, who have made it possible for us to be in the top division." His wife accepted the award on his behalf.
The award for Innovation and Technology went to Aganova, a Málaga-based company providing technological solutions for the integral water cycle. Its founder, Agustín Ramírez, highlighted: "This award symbolises that technology can be created from Málaga, that it can reach the whole world, and that the future can be built from here."
In Tourism, the award went to the Gran Hotel Miramar, whose building is celebrating its 100th anniversary. Its director, Mariola Valladares, stated: "Málaga and our hotel have been speaking the same language for a long time, the language of hospitality, of knowing how to welcome."
The Business category recognised Safamotor, with its CEO, Alicia Serrano, emotional as she remembered her family and collaborators. "This project is built with talent," she said, thanking her team and the thousands of clients. She also had a nod for Elisa Pérez de Siles: "Elisa, everything is going to be fine."
Teléfono de la Esperanza received the award for Solidarity. Its president, Juan Sánchez, emphasised that the service is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and that in its 50 years of history they have carried out 300,000 interventions. "This award is an honour, but also a huge responsibility," he declared.
In Culture, the honouree was the baritone Carlos Álvarez, who has dedicated his life to music and the performing arts: "I have dedicated my life to music and the performing arts, promoting their dissemination from here, from our blue theatre." He recalled a micro-story by Augusto Monterroso to refer to the Auditorium of Málaga, yet to be built.
The ceremony was broadcast by Canal Málaga and was attended by representatives of Málaga society. The awards, now in their sixth edition, recognise individuals and entities that contribute to the development of the city.
