La Malagueta bullring celebrates the 43rd edition of the Carriage Driving Competition Ciudad de Málaga this Friday, featuring 30 carriages and free entry. Bullfighter Saúl Jiménez Fortes will be the honorary godfather.

This Friday, August 7, the La Malagueta bullring will host the 43rd edition of the Carriage Driving Competition Ciudad de Málaga. Organised by the Málaga City Council through the Festivities Department alongside the Malacitano Carriage Club, the event will start at 20:00 with free entry until capacity is reached.

A total of thirty carriages will participate in this event, with the honorary godfather being the Málaga bullfighter Saúl Jiménez Fortes. The councillor for Festivities, Teresa Porras, presented the edition alongside the president of the Malacitano Carriage Club, Mercedes Caparrós, the second vice president of the Provincial Council, Manuel Marmolejo, and Jiménez Fortes himself.

The carriages will come from various points in Andalucía and the rest of Spain. They will be showcased in the categories of lemon carriage, trunk, tandem, three-horse team, fourth and half power, with harnesses in the calesera and English styles.

The jury, composed of experts in equestrian tradition, will assess the historical preservation of the carriage, the elegance of the horses, the attire of the drivers, and the correct execution of the driving. Among the awards are the prizes for Best Local Driver, Best Foreign Driver, Best Calesera Carriage, the trophy for Young Promises, and the Champion of Champions trophy.

A prize will also be awarded for the best-dressed woman, decided by haute couture designer Jesús Segado and the director of the AC Hotel by Marriott Málaga Palacio, Jorge González.

This event is part of the Málaga Fair programme, which fills the city with activities during these days. Those seeking more information about the competition and the rest of the programme can consult the municipal fair website.
