Journalist Daniel Sousa Rodríguez wins the I Alejo García Award for Best Sound Documentary for 'Hotel Baixamar, the refuge of Mali in Sanxenxo'. The award is presented by the Alhaurín el Grande Town Hall, the University of Málaga, and the Málaga Press Association.
The Alhaurín el Grande Town Hall, the University of Málaga, and the Málaga Press Association have awarded the I Alejo García Award for Best Sound Documentary to the work 'Hotel Baixamar, the refuge of Mali in Sanxenxo', by journalist Daniel Sousa Rodríguez. The decision was announced this Friday.
The jury evaluated the journalistic and technical quality of the documentary, the variety of voices and testimonies it incorporates, the dynamism of its structure, and its approach to migration focused on coexistence and the experiences of its protagonists, distancing itself from polarization. The quality of the sound, the use of radio language elements, and the rhythm of the piece were also considered.
In this first edition, candidates from various parts of the Peninsula were submitted. The jury selected the works of Daniel Sousa and Miguel Ángel Fernández as finalists. The first prize went to Sousa, while Fernández received a special mention in recognition of the journalistic quality of his proposal.
The councillor for Communication, Luis Miguel Molina, highlighted the aim of this award to recognise the quality of journalistic works in sound format and to pay tribute to the Alhaurín journalist Alejo García, whose career is linked to significant events in Spain's recent history.
"The award aims to recognise the quality of journalistic works in sound format and to highlight a genre that has gained increasing relevance in recent years," Molina stated.
The councillor also thanked the collaboration of the University of Málaga and the Málaga Press Association in the development of the award and encouraged other professionals to submit their works in future calls.
The jury was chaired by Luis Miguel Molina Almirante, who had a voice but no vote, and included Elena Blanco, president of the Málaga Press Association; Bella Palomo, dean of the Faculty of Communication Sciences at the University of Málaga; Joaquín Durán Ayo and Teresa Santos Garrote, radio professionals; and María Luisa Palma Barrabino, from the Municipal Radio Television of Alhaurín el Grande.
The physical award ceremony will take place on October 9 at 13:00 at the Antonio Gala House Museum – La Baltasara.
