The City Council of Antequera, through the Family and Elderly Area, has organised a leisure, training and social programme for those over 60 that will take place from October 4 to 18, featuring free activities and a hiking route costing 35 euros.
The City Council of Antequera, through the Family and Elderly Area, has prepared a programme of activities to commemorate the International Day of Older Persons, celebrated on October 1. The councillor for the area, María Sierras, has informed that the programme is aimed at people over 60 years and will run from October 4 to 18, with leisure, training, cultural and physical activity proposals.
The programme will kick off on Sunday, October 4, at 18:00 hours, in the Paseo Real, with a day of live music and dance featuring Mael Flamenco and musical ambience from the Municipal School of Music of Antequera (EMMA).
From Monday, October 5 to Friday, October 9, the workshop “VI Press Without Age” will be held, a media literacy project by the Press Association of Málaga sponsored by the “la Caixa” Foundation. The sessions will cover hoaxes, scams and deception, artificial intelligence, WhatsApp and social media. They will take place in the workshop classroom of the Social Services Centre, from 17:00 to 19:00 hours. Registrations can be formalised from September 28 to 30, from 9:00 to 14:00 hours, at this centre.
On Saturday, October 10, a petanque tournament will take place at the El Maulí courts, with a call at 8:30 hours and a draw at 8:45 hours. Registrations will remain open until September 30 at the phone numbers 660 312 700 and 648 019 538.
On Wednesday, October 14, the Paseo Real will host the proposal “Get Active and Gain Life”, with games and adapted sports for older people, from 10:00 to 12:00 hours, organised by the ALÚA Training Centre and Cruz Roja Junt@s.
Literature will have its space on Thursday, October 15, at 18:00 hours, in the San Zoilo Municipal Library, with the cultural activity “Words of Women”, linked to the Day of Women Writers, which will involve collaboration from various groups and continue the experience from last year.
On Saturday, October 17, a hiking route will take place along the coastal path Cabopino–La Cala de Mijas, a 7.3 kilometre route through natural spaces, beaches and urban sections via wooden walkways. The departure is scheduled for 8:00 hours and the return at 18:00 hours. The activity has limited places and a fee of 35 euros which includes bus, guide and food. Registrations will be held on October 13 and 14, from 10:00 to 13:00 hours, at the Social Services Centre. As a condition for participation, the programme requires no cardiac conditions or mobility issues.
The programme will conclude on Sunday, October 18, at 12:00 hours, in the House of Culture, with the performance of “Maribel and the Strange Family”, by the Antequera Theatre Cultural Association. Places are limited and tickets can be collected at the Social Services Centre on October 15 and 16, from 10:00 to 13:00 hours.
“This commemoration is an opportunity to recognise the experience of older people and value their participation in society,” highlighted councillor María Sierras.
Sierras has encouraged participation in this programme of activities and thanked the collaboration of individuals, groups and entities that have contributed to making this programme possible.
