On September 18, 2026, the Civil Guard, as part of operation “Coyars”, arrested two individuals in Alicante, specifically in Finestrat, for the violent theft of nearly 20,000 euros in cash, jewellery, and cryptocurrencies. The detainees are a 29-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman, who are charged with illegal detention, robbery with violence, and belonging to a criminal group.
The investigation began after the victim reported being surprised in his apartment by the aggressors. For several hours, the man was held, tied up, and subjected to assaults to force him to hand over his valuable belongings, including cash and gold, as well as to make cryptocurrency transfers.
Gaining trust as a modus operandi
As the investigation progressed, Civil Guard agents examined a large volume of information and discovered that the detained woman had gained the victim's trust months before the events. This facilitated the location of the alleged leader and organiser of the criminal group.
The arrests were made simultaneously in Barcelona and Guipúzcoa. This action was motivated by indications that one of the detainees might leave the country. The man was transferred to the San Sebastián court, where provisional imprisonment was ordered. Meanwhile, the woman was made available to the Martorell court, which decided to release her under precautionary measures.
Continuity of the investigation
The detainees face several charges, and authorities have stated that the operation has been led by the Territorial Team of Judicial Police of Villajoyosa, with the collaboration of other Civil Guard units in Alicante, Barcelona, and Guipúzcoa. The investigation remains open, and future actions to fully clarify this case are not ruled out.
