The City Council of Archidona, with the support of La Noria and the Diputación de Málaga, launches 'A Vila do Mañá', a social innovation program that uses a life-sized board to allow minors to analyse and propose changes to the urban model.
The mayor of Archidona, Juan Manuel Almohalla Astorga, presented the project "A Vila do Mañá" this Wednesday, a pioneering initiative in the province of Málaga that aims to involve children and teenagers in the design of public space. The program, developed by a Galician cultural entity and already awarded at the national level, will be implemented in the municipality with the collaboration of the social innovation centre La Noria and the Diputación de Málaga.
The initiative is based on a giant game board, installed at various points in the locality, where participants can express their perception of the urban environment and propose improvements. A specialized technical team in architecture and urban pedagogy will guide the sessions, which combine analysis, creativity, and debate.
According to the municipal youth technician, Ángela Miranda, the workshops are aimed at young people aged between 12 and 18 and will take place in the afternoon, from 18:00 to 22:00 hours. The first two days will be held on the ground floor of the City Hall, while the sessions on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday will move to the Silo, an emblematic space in Archidona.
Registration opens this Wednesday and can be done via the phone number 655 64 67 75. Places are limited, so the City Council recommends signing up as soon as possible. The activity is part of the municipality's summer programming and aims to take advantage of the holiday period to encourage youth participation.
The councillor for Citizen Participation, María Gracia Nuevo Torres, highlighted that "A Vila do Mañá" represents a unique opportunity for local children and youth to convey their needs directly and actively collaborate in the construction of the municipality. "We want the children of Archidona to feel that their opinion matters and that they can influence the decisions that affect their daily lives," she stated.
The project arrives in Archidona after being successfully tested in several Galician municipalities, where it achieved high participation and concrete proposals that were later incorporated into local urban plans. The adaptation to the Málaga municipality has been made possible thanks to the support of La Noria, a social innovation centre promoted by the Diputación de Málaga, which has already collaborated on other similar initiatives in the province.
The City Council emphasizes that the goal is not only to collect ideas but also to educate in democratic values and co-responsibility. Young people will learn to identify urban problems, negotiate solutions, and present their conclusions to local authorities. At the end of the workshop, a report will be prepared with the collected proposals, which will be submitted to the City Council for consideration.
