Event on participation in biomedical research in Málaga

The Málaga Biomedical Research Institute (IBIMA) held an event on October 8, 2026, focused on patient participation in the design and development of biomedical research. The meeting, conducted in a hybrid format at the 061 Emergency Health Centre of Andalusia, aims to facilitate collaboration between researchers, patients, and associations.

The voice of the patient in research

The coordinator of the Oncohematological Unit CIMO of IBIMA, Inmaculada Alés, moderated the event, highlighting the importance of including patients' opinions and experiences in research projects. According to Alés, “including the voice of patients allows us to move towards research that truly addresses their needs.”

During the event, examples of ongoing projects were shared, and a dialogue space was opened to discuss patients' concerns. The EPIPREDICT project, led by Isabel Barragán, was presented, addressing collaborative design in clinical trials. Additionally, other researchers such as Jorge Contreras and Manuel Macías shared new initiatives in oncology and obesity, emphasizing the importance of holistic health and patient well-being.

IBIMA continues to promote biomedical research that aligns with societal needs. By integrating citizen participation, relevant aspects that impact patients' daily lives can be identified.

In summary, this event reinforces IBIMA's commitment to translational research that benefits patients' quality of life, providing a space for listening and collaboration between professionals and the public.
