The grand final will be held on August 1 in Playamar, with a popular tasting of sardines and Malagueña fried fish. The event brings together the best espeteros in the province.
Chiringuito Larry, in Torremolinos, has been chosen as the venue for the official presentation of the poster for the XII Espetos Competition of the Costa del Sol. The event, organised by the Círculo de Empresarios de la Costa del Sol and the Torremolinos Town Hall, gathered authorities, sponsors, and media.
Adolfo Trigueros, president of the Círculo de Empresarios and the Espeto Table, opened the event highlighting that this edition aims to continue promoting the maritime culture and gastronomic excellence of the province. “The espeto is a hallmark of our coast,” he noted.
A poster with a local stamp
The promotional poster is the work of Sebastián Oliva, creative director of Coconuts Studio, who explained the visual concept: an image that fuses tradition and modernity. The work represents a sardine in close-up against a sunset beach background, aiming to convey the essence of the event.
The event was also attended by Carlos García Giménez, territorial delegate for Tourism of the Junta in Málaga; Leonor García Aguas, director of Sabor a Málaga; and Marta Huete, first deputy mayor of Torremolinos. They all agreed on the importance of this competition for the tourism and gastronomic promotion of the Costa del Sol.
Final on August 1 in Playamar
The grand final of the competition will take place on Saturday, August 1, on Playamar beach, between the chiringuitos Sal Marina and Casa Paco. Starting at 18:00, attendees will be able to enjoy a large popular espeto open to the public, featuring grilled sardines and Malagueña fried fish paired with San Miguel beer.
The competition will bring together the best espeteros in the province, who will compete for the title of Best Espetero of the Costa del Sol. Last year, the winner was precisely Chiringuito Larry, which has hosted the presentation.
For the residents of Torremolinos and tourists, this event represents a unique opportunity to taste one of the most emblematic dishes of Malagueña cuisine in a festive atmosphere. The organisation expects a high turnout, as in previous editions.
The espeto de sardinas is a centuries-old tradition on the Malagueña coast, declared a Cultural Heritage of Immaterial Interest. The competition, now in its twelfth year, has established itself as a gastronomic reference in the province.
