The mayor, Margarita del Cid, has presented the programme for the Virgen del Carmen Fair in Torremolinos, which will be held from July 15 to 19. The promotional poster is the work of artist Rafael Laureano.

The Virgen del Carmen Fair in Torremolinos now has its date and poster. Mayor Margarita del Cid, accompanied by the councillor for Culture, Events and Traditions, José Manuel Ruiz, and representatives of the Virgen del Carmen Brotherhood of La Carihuela, revealed the details of an edition that promises to maintain the maritime essence and popular devotion.

A poster that fuses tradition and modernity

The artist Rafael Laureano has been commissioned to illustrate this year's festivity, with a poster that combines classic resources of devotional posters with a contemporary perspective. The work, as highlighted by the mayor, is a tribute to the Carmelite fervour of La Carihuela, its maritime history, and the unmistakable light of Torremolinos.

“I want to express my sincerest gratitude to Rafael Laureano, an artist who, with great mastery and sensitivity, has created the poster with which the City Council wishes to reflect the profound devotion that an entire city has for the Virgen del Carmen,” declared Del Cid during the presentation.

The poster, which will be displayed in public spaces and on the municipal website, aims to be a dialogue between the pictorial, sculptural, and graphic. It is a commitment to artistic quality that, according to sources from the council, has already received positive feedback from residents.

Programme for all audiences

The fair will kick off on July 15 with the lighting of the artistic illuminations at 21:00 in the Plaza del Remo. This year, the streets Bulto and Los Perros will maintain their ornamental arches, and the decoration has been enhanced with garlands and banners in the pedestrian areas of La Carihuela, a request from the Brotherhood of Carmen to highlight the traditional character of the area.

On the same day, at 20:00, the floral offering to the Virgen del Carmen will begin, departing from Calle Chiriva. At midnight, the image will be transferred to its processional throne. The children's attractions will, throughout the fair, adhere to the measure of not using music playback devices from 21:00 to 22:00 to integrate individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

Live music will be one of the highlights. The Traditional Municipal Booth in the Plaza del Remo will host the Rompeolas orchestra from Wednesday to Saturday. The Youth Municipal Booth, on the beach in front of the La Zoca restaurant, will offer free performances by groups such as Mayday, Capitán Vinilo, Retroactivos, Stereo 80, Alokados, The Bottles, Ilsentho, Pop FM, Queen of Magic, TNT, Money Makers, Mr. Proper, and the Free Soul Band.

The big day of the maritime procession

On July 16, the feast of Our Lady of Carmen of La Carihuela, will begin with a solemn mass at 11:00 in the Parish of Our Lady of Carmen, sung by the Choir Nuestra Señora del Rocío of Torremolinos. At 17:45, the fishermen will gather at the Albaida School to depart in procession at 18:30.

The image of the Patroness and Honorary Mayor of Torremolinos will tour the streets of the neighbourhood accompanied by the Cruz de Humilladero music band and the Redención de Arroyo de la Miel cornets and drums band. The itinerary will pass through Calle Carmen, San Ginés, Chiriva, Pasaje Carihuela, Los Perros, Huerta del Rincón, and the Paseo Marítimo of La Carihuela.

The most anticipated moment will arrive at 21:00 in the Rincón del Sol, with the celebration of the word, the maritime prayer, and the blessing of the waters. An event that gathers thousands of people each year and which, if the weather permits, promises to be equally moving this year. The procession will return to the temple starting at 22:00.

Children's day and fair closure

On Sunday, July 19, the children's day will be celebrated, with attractions at reduced prices. Again, from 21:00 to 22:00, the attractions will not use music playback equipment to facilitate the integration of the little ones with ASD. A measure that, according to municipal sources, has been very well received in previous editions.

The mayor has wished for all residents to enjoy these days, a celebration that represents “that magical communion between Torremolinos, its people, especially the fishermen, and the Mediterranean Sea that each year blesses our Virgen del Carmen.”
