The PSOE of Torremolinos fractures over the privatisation of Litosa

PSOE councillor Jorge Padilla denounces layoffs in the privatisation of Litosa, but spokesperson Nieves Rosales discredits him and defends the staff.

Socialist councillor Jorge Padilla warns of possible layoffs in the outsourcing of cleaning services, while spokesperson Nieves Rosales discredits him and defends the staff.

The municipal group of the PSOE in Torremolinos has once again highlighted its deep internal division, this time regarding the local PP government's plan to privatise the cleaning and waste collection service, which involves the disappearance of the public company Litosa.

Socialist councillor Jorge Padilla has warned, in a statement, that the file explicitly includes "scenarios of layoffs" and that, according to the technical study, "the necessary equivalent staff is manifestly lower than the current one." The government team responds that the procedure protects the personnel, guarantees their subrogation, and proposes an orderly transition with natural amortisation of vacancies, not layoffs. "Workers are not amortised: positions are amortised when they become vacant," they clarified.

The socialist spokesperson in the Corporation, Nieves Rosales, discredited Padilla during the plenary session held this Thursday, stating that his criticisms "are entirely made in an individual capacity." "Never, ever will I use people's fear as a political weapon," she insisted, and called on all parties to come to her spokesperson role to understand the local PSOE's position. Rosales also demanded that the file to outsource the service be withdrawn and that Litosa be defended.

The rift has deep roots. The party has been grappling with an open crisis since the sexual harassment complaint against former secretary general Antonio Navarro, who no longer attends plenary sessions. On December 23, 2025, councillors Maribel Tocón and Nieves Rosales requested to separate their seats from the rest of the group. There have also been complaints about a lack of parity, resignations, and a motion of no confidence against Navarro.

Now, an interim management team is directing the PSOE in Torremolinos while the future of Litosa and its workers hangs in the balance. The file continues its course in the Town Hall, with the PP defending the outsourcing and the local PSOE divided between defending the public company and criticising the municipal government's management.
