The Osunillas neighbourhood in Mijas now has a renewed water supply network after five months of work. The project has cost 751,000 euros and serves over 400 residents.
The mayor of Mijas, Ana Mata, attended the delivery of the renovation works for the drinking water supply network in the Osunillas neighbourhood on Thursday, a project that is now operational and benefits more than 400 residents. The investment has reached 751,000 euros, with 130 connections to homes.
The work involved replacing the old asbestos cement and polyethylene pipes with a new ductile iron network, with diameters of 200, 150, and 100 millimetres. The scope of the work covers 1,400 linear metres and the construction began in April, with a five-month execution period that has been met.
The affected streets include Puerto El Pino, Puerto de la Media Luna, Puerto de los Pescadores, Puerto de las Grajas, Puerto de los Castillejos, Puerto de la Breña, Puerto Málaga, and Pasaje Puerto Blanco. The new network runs underground along the roadway next to the curbs and includes 35 main valves.
“They will represent a significant advance in terms of sustainability, as they will contribute to a more efficient use of water, reducing leaks and frequent breakdowns in the existing network.”
This was noted by the mayor during the visit, accompanied by the CEO of Acosol, Matilde Mancha, and the council member of the government team Mari Francis Alarcón. The works have been carried out by Acosol, a public water company dependent on the Association of Municipalities of the Western Costa del Sol, funded by the improvement fee from Mijas.
As part of the same project, 42 sanitation chambers have been installed for as many homes, in those connections that were found during the installation of the supply network and that did not have a register. These new chambers will facilitate cleaning and maintenance of the general sanitation network.
