The Mijas Town Hall is progressing with the installation of 6,000 square metres of awnings in the Grand Park, which will provide shade for children's areas, squares and the central boulevard.
The Grand Park of Mijas, located in Las Lagunas, adds shade to its 270,000 square metres. The Town Hall has begun installing 6,000 square metres of awnings that will cover the children's play areas, the squares, the central boulevard and the amphitheatre. The mayor, Ana Mata, supervised the work on Tuesday, which has already shaded part of the children's play areas.
This action is part of the maintenance contract for green areas and park cleaning, awarded to the joint venture (UTE) formed by Inditec and Ituval. The contract has an allocation of 1.95 million euros per year and includes this improvement over the original project, as reported by the mayor during the visit, accompanied by the councillor for Parks and Gardens, Daniel Gómez.
Additionally, two of the six final toilet modules that the facility will have, with universal accessibility, have already been installed. "The Grand Park of Mijas continues its progressive equipping thanks to the improvements made by this government team. We are talking about basic aspects such as shade and toilets, but also parking or plant species with lower water demand," Mata pointed out.
The mayor highlighted that the initial project did not consider these needs. "Incredible as it may seem, this project did not take any of these needs into account, but thanks to the commitment of this government team, we now have the three contracts for the Grand Park formalised and in execution," she added. In addition to the maintenance contract, the conservation and equipping contracts are in force, awarded to CLECE FS for 1.3 million euros annually, and the security, opening and closing contract, managed by CLECE Seguridad for 1.17 million per year.
The Grand Park, the largest urban park in Andalusia, houses more than 2,900 trees and 20,000 plants. Its facilities include basketball and five-a-side football pitches, five children's play areas, a skate park, a splash park, a dog park, an amphitheatre for 1,500 people and a navigable lake. With the awnings, the Town Hall aims to improve visitor comfort, especially in summer, and expand the use of the resting and play areas during the hottest hours.
