Mijas achieves a 94.4% hotel occupancy in August, 1.55 points above the provincial average, and climbs to third place on the Costa del Sol, according to AEHCOS.
Mijas closed August with a hotel occupancy of 94.4%, according to data published by the Association of Hotel Entrepreneurs of the Costa del Sol (AEHCOS). This figure exceeds the provincial average (92.85%) by 1.55 points and places the municipality as the third destination with the highest occupancy in the province, behind Benalmádena (96.2%) and Torremolinos (95.5%).
The figure improves by 0.83 points over the August 2025 record (93.57%) and consolidates Mijas as one of the three major destinations on the Costa del Sol that have grown compared to last summer. A year ago, the municipality ranked fifth in the province; now it has climbed two positions.
This is the second consecutive month in which Mijas ranks among the top on the coast. In July, it recorded 92.26%, the second-best figure in the province, and in August it adds more than two points to that figure.
The provincial average occupancy (92.85%) exceeds the forecast that AEHCOS had at the end of July (88.87%) by almost four points and is 0.70 points above the 92.15% of August 2025. The international market represented 60.5% of the guests accommodated in Mijas, compared to 39.5% from national sources, which in July accounted for 32.2%.
The Councillor for Tourism of the Mijas City Council, Francisco Jerez, has assessed the results: "These are not isolated figures, but confirmation of a trend: we came from a June and July above expectations and August has surpassed it again." "What is important is not just the percentage, but that we are growing while much of the province remains stable or declines," he added.
Jerez has linked these results to the diversity of the municipality's offerings and to the dialogue with the sector through Mijas Lab, the public-private tourism table established in March. Tourism currently supports nearly 8,000 jobs in the municipality, with 7,974 workers linked to the sector in the second quarter, 3.60% more than twelve months ago.
Looking ahead to the coming months, AEHCOS forecasts a provincial occupancy of 88.58% in September and over 83% in October. In the case of Mijas, the estimate for October reaches 80.7%.
As the first step of the mid-season, the Tourism Department will celebrate Tourist Day on September 23 in the Virgen de la Peña square, with a flamenco show and paella tasting, as part of the commemoration of World Tourism Day.
