The Antequera Town Hall has given the green light to the license to condition the Roman city of Singilia Barba, with a budget of €380,099. The project includes cleaning, fencing, and pathways.
The Roman city of Singilia Barba, in Antequera, will no longer be an enclave solely for specialists. The Town Hall has positively reported on the municipal license to execute a project that will combine the conservation of the remains with the improvement of access and the installation of informative elements.
The initiative, promoted by the Ministry of Culture of the Junta de Andalucía, has a material execution budget of €380,099 and affects a site declared Asset of Cultural Interest (BIC) with the category of Archaeological Zone, according to Diario Sur.
Among the planned works are the cleaning and consolidation of the existing archaeological remains, as well as the installation of fencing to enhance the protection of the site and control access to certain areas. Entry points will also be conditioned, and pathways will be established to allow for an orderly tour of the site.
The intervention will incorporate signage and informative elements to bring visitors closer to the history of Singilia Barba. The aim is to make a heritage that, despite its significance, has had limited public projection more understandable.
The municipal approval comes after technical and legal reports concluded that the actions are compatible with the current urban planning. The license includes conditions to ensure that the works do not compromise archaeological values: earth movements will be limited to what is strictly necessary, and interventions affecting the subsoil will have specialized supervision.
The mayor of Antequera, Manolo Barón, has praised the commitment of the Ministry of Culture to a site that, in his opinion, needs to advance both in its effective protection and in its recognition by the public.
