The Antequera City Council positively informs the license for the conservation and enhancement works of the Roman City of Singilia Barba, with a budget of €380,099.

The Antequera City Council has positively informed the municipal license for the conservation and protection actions of the Roman City of Singilia Barba, declared Asset of Cultural Interest (BIC) with the category of Archaeological Zone. The project, promoted by the Cultural Department of the Junta de Andalucía, has a Material Execution Budget of €380,099.33.

The works include cleaning and consolidating the remains, installing protective fencing, improving access and visitor routes, and placing signage and educational elements. The municipal technical and legal reports have concluded that the action is compatible with the current urban planning and have established the conditions for its proper execution.

The mayor of Antequera, Manolo Barón, has positively assessed the commitment of the Cultural Department to the site:

“We are facing a long-overdue action that will effectively protect the site and begin to enhance it as it deserves.”

Barón highlighted that the investment from the Junta de Andalucía represents a decisive step for Singilia Barba to stop being a heritage site primarily known by specialists and to advance towards a protected, conserved space ready for knowledge and visitation. He also emphasized the collaboration between administrations:

“The City Council is now fulfilling its urban responsibility, facilitating the execution of an action promoted by the Cultural Department, and we do so with the satisfaction that an essential part of our Roman history will finally receive the attention and protection it deserves.”

The project incorporates specific measures to ensure archaeological conservation during the works, such as limiting earth movements and specialized supervision of the works. With this action, Singilia Barba moves towards a new stage of protection, conservation, and enhancement.
