The Confederation of Business Owners of Málaga shows its support for the productive fabric of Ceuta and demands a comprehensive plan that guarantees its economic future. Additionally, it will join the demonstration this Wednesday in the capital.
The Confederation of Business Owners of Málaga (CEM) issued a statement on Tuesday expressing its solidarity and support for the entire Ceuta society and, in particular, for its productive fabric and the Confederation of Business Owners of Ceuta (CECE). The organization advocates the need to preserve and reinforce the image of Ceuta as a safe, stable, open, and attractive city for business activity, job creation, investment, and living.
According to Diario Sur, the president of the CEM, Javier González de Lara, stated: "It is not enough to compensate for losses; it is essential to recover the perception of Ceuta as what it must continue to be: a safe, open, commercial city that is attractive to live in, visit, and invest. The businesses of Ceuta and its organizations, as well as its inhabitants, have our full solidarity and involvement."
The Málaga business association emphasizes the need to advance in a comprehensive action plan that establishes the foundations for a sustainable economic revitalization of Ceuta. According to the CEM, the plan must include both emergency and compensation measures as well as transformative actions that permanently strengthen its business and productive fabric.
González de Lara insisted that "we cannot be continually resorting to extraordinary aid; we need structural solutions that reinforce the productive fabrics of Ceuta and Melilla and guarantee their economic future." The demand also extends to Melilla, which, along with Ceuta, requires a singular and permanent economic consideration so that its businesses can operate with security and certainty.
The CEM has announced that it will join the call this Wednesday, September 2, on the occasion of Ceuta Day. A representation of its members will attend the demonstration taking place in front of the Málaga City Hall at eight in the evening, which has been called by the city council itself and the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP), to which the Andalusian Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FAMP) has adhered.
The Málaga City Hall, on August 28, sent a statement informing of its adherence to the call in support of Ceuta and its citizens, with a demonstration this Wednesday at eight in the evening at the doors of the Casona. Additionally, the Local Government Board on August 14 reported on an institutional declaration in which the City Council expressed its closeness and support to the citizens of Ceuta and Melilla. The mayor, Francisco de la Torre, made an institutional visit to the autonomous city on Wednesday, August 26, and held a meeting with its president, Juan Jesús Vivas.
In light of this call, the Moroccan Association for the Integration of Immigrants registered a letter on Tuesday with the Málaga City Hall addressed to the mayor, requesting an institutional commitment to coexistence and the protection of migrant people. In the letter, the NGO expresses its concern "about the current climate of tension generated around the situation in Ceuta and, especially, regarding the episodes of violence, hostility, and targeting of migrants that have occurred in recent days."
The organization respects the right to protest but considers it necessary for the demonstrations on September 2 to take place peacefully and for solidarity with the autonomous city to be accompanied by an unequivocal commitment to coexistence and a rejection of any form of violence, discrimination, or targeting of migrants. It also warns that the tension "could spread to other municipalities" and emphasizes that "a migrant residing in Málaga or any other Spanish municipality cannot be held responsible, individually or collectively, for what happens in Ceuta." The entity invites the City Council to include in its institutional communication an explicit message in defense of the peaceful nature of the mobilization and respect for all individuals, regardless of their origin or migratory status.
