Marbella joins the global calendar of long-distance triathlon. The city will host the fifth event of the T100 World Championship Tour on September 18 and 19, 2027.
Marbella will be the venue for one of the events of the new Triathlon World Tour, the global circuit presented by World Triathlon and the Professional Triathletes Organisation (PTO). The fifth stage of the T100 World Championship Tour, the long-distance format, will take place in the municipality of Málaga on September 18 and 19, 2027, as confirmed by the City Council after the presentation event held in London.
The mayor of Marbella, Ángeles Muñoz, who attended the event in the British capital, highlighted that this designation “reinforces the positioning of the city as a reference destination for high-level sports, active tourism, and major international events.” Muñoz was accompanied by the Councillor for Sports, Lisandro Vieytes.
Muñoz emphasized that the appointment “represents a new recognition of the organizational capacity of the municipality.” “For Marbella, it is fantastic news that we are the city in Spain that will be part of this new stage of triathlon, alongside the national federation, in this T100,” she noted.
The mayor stressed the city's experience in hosting major international sporting competitions and the excellence of its tourist offerings. “As always, we will be a perfect host, a top-level organizer, as we have been until now, and that is why we have been chosen, ensuring that both participants and their companions find an ideal destination in Marbella,” she stated.
Muñoz highlighted that joining the T100 calendar “will help strengthen its global projection and continue promoting the synergy between sport and tourism, one of the strategic axes of the city for generating economic activity and seasonality in the offer.” “We are very excited to organize it and welcome the best triathletes in the world again,” she remarked, while describing Marbella as “a capital of sport.”
The president of the Spanish Triathlon Federation, José Hidalgo, expressed his satisfaction with the announcement and thanked the institutional support from the Marbella City Council. “It is an honour to announce that the World Tour, this new concept of global triathlon, will include this city for the 2027 edition,” he stated.
Hidalgo emphasized the strategic value of Marbella within the international circuit. “We are undoubtedly fortunate to have Marbella as the iconic venue for the new concept of global triathlon, the T100 World Championship, and having it with us at the presentation has been a boost for the federation,” he affirmed during the meeting, which also included the attendance of the president of World Triathlon, Antonio Arimany, and the CEO of the PTO, Sam Renouf.
The new competition model will consist of two major circuits: the T50 World Championship Tour, heir to the current World Triathlon Series (WTCS), and the T100 World Championship Tour, an evolution of the current T100 Triathlon World Tour. Both will culminate in world finals where the world champions of each distance will be officially crowned. Additionally, an intermediate Challenger category will be created, which will integrate the World Triathlon Cups and several events from the Challenge Family circuit.
The initial calendar of the T100 World Championship Tour 2027 will include, in addition to Marbella, the venues of Gold Coast (Australia), Singapore, San Francisco (United States), Vancouver (Canada), Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the French Riviera. The Málaga event will take place in September, a date aimed at attracting the best triathletes in the world and numerous visitors, reinforcing the municipality's commitment to sports tourism.
For triathlon fans and residents of the province, the celebration of this event represents a unique opportunity to see the best long-distance specialists in action. Registrations to participate as a volunteer or attend as an audience will open soon through the official event website.
