The mayor, Ángeles Muñoz, inaugurated the Day Fair of Marbella this Tuesday, which this year dedicates its cover to Peña Los Mentirosos. The venue features 21 bars on the Paseo de la Alameda and Avenida del Mar, along with a security detail of over 500 personnel.
The Day Fair of Marbella officially kicked off this Tuesday with the opening of the 21 bars set up on the Paseo de la Alameda and the Avenida del Mar, which will be the epicentre of gastronomy, music, and socialising throughout the week. The inaugural event included a tribute to Peña Los Mentirosos, a group recognised for its involvement in the social and festive life of the municipality.
The mayor, Ángeles Muñoz, highlighted the success of the launch and encouraged residents and visitors to enjoy a programme "for all audiences" in a "healthy, safe, and guaranteed" environment. During the event, Germán Cervera was also distinguished as the Popular King of this edition, a person "well-known and loved in the city," as noted by the mayor.
"It is an association that always participates, that is willing to be part of everything that is organised and that enjoys our traditions intensely, so we wanted to have this gesture with them"
Muñoz recalled the great reception of the events on Monday at the terraces of the Puerto Deportivo Virgen del Carmen, with the proclamation by Aurelio Gómez Gutiérrez and the traditional fireworks display, and thanked the work of the Festivities delegation. Regarding the organisation of the bars, she emphasised that "there are many bars and an enormous amount of work behind ensuring each one has its place."
The mayor also valued the location of the Day Fair in the heart of the urban centre, which gives it "a unique personality" and makes it, she said, "one of the most fun fairs." As for security, the deployed device for the festivities consists of over 500 personnel from Local Police, National Police, Firefighters, Civil Protection, health services, and support staff.
The mayor also reviewed the evolution of the fairground, which this year has added over 10,000 square metres and a new space dedicated to young people. She reiterated the municipal commitment to a permanent venue: "We would like not to have to set up and take down every year," she stated, recalling that this has already been achieved in San Pedro Alcántara.
The inaugural day also included the crowning of the queens and kings of the active participation centres for the elderly at the Caseta Mi Hogar, located in the Plaza del Mercado Central, and the intergenerational initiative 'Come Grandpa to the fair', organised in collaboration with Marbella Voluntaria and DYA, along with live musical performances.
