The former head of the Carretera de Cádiz district, Juan Carlos Giardín, has sworn in this Thursday as a PP councillor in the Málaga City Council. He will take on the areas of Carretera de Cádiz and Commerce, the latter following the departure of Elisa Pérez de Siles.
The Local Police officer Juan Carlos Giardín (Málaga, 1964) officially took office this Thursday as the new PP councillor in the Málaga City Council after swearing allegiance to the Constitution in the Hall of Mirrors. His appointment comes after the resignation of former PP spokesperson Elisa Pérez de Siles last week, which necessitated moving down the list to number 18, as reported by Diario Sur.
Giardín, an officer since 1989 and previously the head of the Carretera de Cádiz district, will take on that area, the most populated in the city, as well as the Commerce portfolio, which was previously held by Pérez de Siles before she moved to the private sector, specifically to a retail chain.
In his speech before the municipal corporation, the new councillor expressed gratitude to the mayor, Francisco de la Torre, for the trust placed in him since he was part of the PP lists in May 2023, and emotionally recalled the mayor's call. He also had words for his party, his colleagues, and his family.

The councillor's term will last eight months, until the municipal elections in May 2027. Giardín has stated that he hopes to live up to Pérez de Siles, “who has set the bar very high”.
Regarding his new responsibilities, he affirmed that his area of governance “will not be a closed office, but an open tool to stimulate economic activity, eliminate obstacles, and support those who create wealth in our municipality.” He also highlighted that it is “very special” for him to assume the highest responsibility as councillor in Carretera de Cádiz, a district he knows “its streets, its needs, and, above all, the strength and unique identity of its neighbourhoods”.
The new councillor reviewed the three councillors he has worked with as district head: Raúl Jiménez (now managing director of the Digital Agency of Andalucía), Luis Verde (who also left the City Council and works at Sohrling), and Paco Pomares, with whom he has served until this Thursday. The Central Electoral Board has already sent the paperwork to the General Secretariat of the City Council.
Giardín concluded his speech by emphasising that the mayor can count on his full dedication, loyalty to the institution, and his “unwavering commitment to public service”.
