Juan Carlos Giardín, new councillor for Commerce and the Carretera de Cádiz district, took office on 17 September after a career that began at the age of 16 at the now-defunct Juguetes Carrión.
Juan Carlos Giardín has been the new councillor for Commerce and the Carretera de Cádiz district in the Málaga City Council since 17 September, a position previously held by Elisa Pérez de Siles. Giardín, who made his debut in the council on Thursday in seat number 17 of the PP government team, is 61 years old and will turn 62 on 26 November, according to Diario Sur.
His first job was at the age of 16 in the legendary Juguetes Carrión, a now-closed store where several generations of Málaga residents chose their gifts for the Three Kings. Now, almost half a century later, he heads an area related to that first job. He has accumulated 42 years of contributions.
After completing his secondary education, in 1982, he joined the Paratrooper Brigade to do voluntary military service. He then moved to the Melilla 52 Infantry Regiment and in 1984 joined the Legion, in the Fourth Tercio of Ronda, until 1987. In 1989, he passed the exams to become a Local Police officer. In 2011, he was district chief in Palma-Palmilla and in 2016 took over as head of Carretera de Cádiz, a position he held until 2023 when the mayor, Paco de la Torre, proposed he join the PP list for the municipal elections in May of that year.
For Giardín, his arrival in office is "a recognition of the work in favour of citizens in the districts" and "a culmination" of his professional career. The new councillor comes with extensive prior experience and has eight months ahead until the next municipal elections in May 2027.

In the same council session, the post-council saw the intervention of Jesús Rodríguez Arribas, known as El Chule, who called for speeding up subsidies for the Casa de la Buena Vida in Palma-Palmilla, a resource that supports people outside the protection of other institutions. El Chule addressed the opposition with a request: "I ask the opponents to help me and make an 'emotion'," he said, referring to the motion being processed in the councils. Several opposition councillors committed to visiting the centre.
