The Marbella expedition returns from La Rioja with five medals at the Spanish Championships of Aquathlon, Cross Triathlon, and Cross Duathlon, highlighting Jorge Otalecu's runner-up finish.
Grupo Serman Triatlón Marbella has brilliantly concluded its participation in the Spanish Championships of Aquathlon, Cross Triathlon, and Cross Duathlon, held last weekend (25 and 26 July) in the La Rioja town of Calahorra. The delegation from the Costa del Sol returns home with a total of five national podiums, a result that consolidates the club as one of the references for triathlon in Andalusia and on the national scene.
The event began on Saturday with the Spanish Aquathlon Championship, a competition affected by weather conditions. Strong winds created dangerous currents in the reservoir where the swimming segment took place, forcing a one-hour delay in the start. Despite the difficulties, the cadet team from Serman Triatlón Marbella, made up of Silvio Núñez, Gaspar Álvarez, and Pablo Resa, adapted well and managed to secure the bronze medal in the club category.
On the same Saturday, the individual medal tally opened with Jorge Otalecu's performance in the Spanish Cross Duathlon Championship. The Marbella athlete became the runner-up in the paralympic PTS7 category, a medal he would repeat the next day in the Spanish Cross Triathlon Championship, where he again took silver. His double achievement demonstrates exceptional form and places him among the best in his category at the national level.
Meanwhile, the reigning world champion Edu Oliva added a bronze medal in the paralympic PTS5 category. His race was marked by misfortune: he was leading the event with a several-minute advantage when a mechanical issue in the cycling segment took him out of the gold medal contention. Despite the setback, the effort and resilience of the Marbella athlete allowed him to secure the third spot on the podium, a commendable result given the circumstances.
The fifth and final medal of the expedition came from Tania Casado, who claimed third place in the Spanish Cross Triathlon Championship within her age group (40-44 years). Her performance rounded off a historic weekend for the club, which has demonstrated the talent and consistency of its youth, as well as the high level of its paralympic and age group athletes.
With these five medals, Grupo Serman Triatlón Marbella reaffirms its position as one of the most solid triathlon clubs in the province. The expedition, which left the Costa del Sol on Friday, has returned home with a balance that invites optimism for future competitions. The athletes are already thinking about the upcoming challenges, with their sights set on continuing to add successes for Marbella sports.
