The mayor of Marbella, Ángeles Muñoz, has presided over the awarding of 14 scholarships from the Association of University Women of Marbella (AMUM), which has benefited 110 students over 15 years.
The Marbella City Council has hosted the ceremony for the 14 university scholarships that the Association of University Women of Marbella (AMUM) grants this year. The mayor, Ángeles Muñoz, presided over the event and highlighted the work of the entity, which has supported 110 students since its creation in 2009.
Muñoz congratulated the president of AMUM, Graciela Waen, and the entire team for maintaining a programme that, as she stated, “demonstrates AMUM's commitment to providing opportunities for young women.” The mayor emphasized that these scholarships “represent recognition of talent, but also of the effort and perseverance of the students throughout their academic journey.”
The scholarships, which are awarded annually, are aimed at female students from Marbella who are starting university studies. In this edition, the beneficiaries will pursue degrees in Law, Medicine, Pharmacy, Energy Engineering, Social Education, Psychology, Hispanic Philology, Architecture, Physics, and Design, at universities in Andalusia and other autonomous communities.
The students come from schools in the municipality such as Sierra Blanca, Vega de Mar, Cilniana, Río Verde, Guadaiza, Victoria Kent, and Guadalpín. The mayor encouraged them to “make the most of their university years as a period of learning and growth” and to maintain their connection with Marbella during their studies, acting as ambassadors for the city.
Muñoz expressed her hope that, once they complete their studies, the young women “can return to the municipality to develop their professional future here, contributing with their training and knowledge.” The AMUM association, a non-profit organization, focuses on facilitating women's access to education, and this scholarship programme is one of its most established initiatives.
Since its launch fifteen years ago, the programme has reached 110 beneficiaries, a figure that the mayor has described as “very significant” for equality of opportunity in the educational field. The event was attended by family members, teachers, and representatives from educational institutions, as well as members of the municipal corporation.
The AMUM scholarship application opens each year for students registered in Marbella who have been admitted to a university. The grants are intended to cover tuition fees, materials, or travel expenses, according to the association's guidelines. Interested parties can check the requirements at the AMUM headquarters or through its website.
