The Club Deportivo Estepona announced this Sunday the signing of Julen Jon Guerrero for the upcoming season. The 22-year-old forward thus returns to the town where he took his first steps as a footballer, at the San José school, and reunites with his father, Julen Guerrero, who serves as the club's sporting director.
In an official statement, the Málaga team highlighted the youth, talent, and offensive quality of the player. Julen Jon arrives from Getafe B, a team in Segunda RFEF, where he finished the last campaign after terminating his contract with Arenteiro of Primera Federación.
The footballer, who has been an international at youth levels with the Spanish national team, was trained in the academies of Málaga and Real Madrid. His career has taken him through several clubs: after leaving Real Madrid Castilla in January 2024, he joined Alavés B, and that same summer he was loaned to Amorebieta, a club he had already been with for half a season in 2023, the year they achieved promotion to Segunda División.
In his second stint at Amorebieta, during the summer of 2024, he played precisely under his father, Julen Guerrero, who was then managing the team. However, the former Athletic forward was dismissed after ten matches, with the team at the bottom of Primera Federación following relegation. In January, Amorebieta and Alavés agreed to end Julen Jon's loan, whose prominence had diminished after the change of coach.
This is not the first time that father and son have coincided in a professional setting. Julen Jon went through the Málaga academy while his father worked there, and he was also called up when Julen managed the Spanish U-15 national team.
Now, both are reunited at Estepona, a club that competes in Segunda Federación and is looking to strengthen its attack for the upcoming season. The arrival of Julen Jon Guerrero represents a quality reinforcement for the team, which relies on his experience despite his youth.
