Stabilisation of the Wildfire in Benahavís

The wildfire declared in Benahavís, Málaga, has been stabilised, which has allowed the lifting of the preventive evacuation of residents and the reduction of the Andalusian Wildfire Emergency Plan to a pre-emergency phase.

Antonio Sanz, the first vice president and councillor for Health, Presidency and Emergencies of the Junta de Andalucía, reported that residents of the Montemayor and Benahavís Hills urbanisations, as well as the property known as La Coja, can return to their homes following the improvement in the situation.

Actions and Measures Taken During the Emergency

Sanz highlighted the collaboration among the various services deployed, which managed to halt the spread of the fire and protect nearby homes. He indicated that no damage to houses has been reported despite the danger posed by the proximity of the fire.

The fire necessitated activating the INFOCA Plan to emergency phase due to risks to the population. This facilitated more effective coordination among emergency services and allowed for preventive measures to safeguard residents.

Although the fire is now stabilised, emergency teams continue to work in the area. Currently, the operation includes five aerial resources and 153 specialists, including helicopters and planes, as well as various units of forest firefighters and support teams.

The rapid response of the emergency teams, in just over 24 hours, has been crucial in controlling a complicated situation that mobilised numerous resources to protect the safety of citizens in Benahavís.
